The Access Initiative

The Indonesian Center for Environmental Law (ICEL) promotes legal reform and good environmental governance through research, advocacy and capacity-building. Grounded in the principles of transparency, accountability and fairness, ICEL seeks to empower citizens and civil society groups to know and use their rights to fight for sustainable natural resource use. ICEL works to strengthen the capacity of state institutions to create, implement and enforce environmental laws and regulations. ICEL has worked with TAI on the Strengthening the Right to Information for People and the Environment (STRIPE) project, which uses the right to information law to advocate for the accountability of pulp and paper mills that contaminate key Indonesian rivers.
