13th Cultural Festival VOLAMBETOHAKA 2016 EDITION, Fandriana, Madagascar

Under the High Patronage of MR Hery Rajaonarimampianina the President of Madagascar, the festival will showcase the culture, traditions, and heritage of the Amoron'i Mania Region as it seeks to promote unity and friendship. 

Quick facts about the town of Fandriana:

- It is situated in the Central Highlands of Madagascar, located between Antsirabe and Ambositra
- It is part of the Amoron’i Mania Region in the province of Fianarantsoa
- Population: Est. 21,000 (commune census 2001); 45% of the population are employed
through farming and 35% in livestock
- Region is popular for its rice crop
- Fandriana is world-renowned for its colorful hand-woven silk textiles.
- Current Mayor: Mr. Nanjanirina Rakotondrasoa, Alias “Totoga”
- Town Slogan: “Fisakana tsa hanim-boay!” (the saying dates back to King Rafovato’s
time (1720-1790) when the crocodiles in the river of Fisakana was tricked into eating
meat with a hot stone hidden inside it. The tale is that there are no more crocodiles
in the Fisakana river and even if there were, the crocodiles would not eat the people
of Fisakana. Literal translation of the slogan: The people of fisakana are never eaten
by crocodiles).
