As part of the actions of the technical table of the Bolas River, the Departmental Governor, representatives of the National Institute of Forests INAB, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources MARN, Utz Che, and the enterprises like HAME, and the Magdalena, Palo Gordo and El Pilar Sugar Mills, along with the Private Institute for Climate Change Research ICC, planted 1,500 trees today.
The reforestation was hosted in Retalhuleu, in La Providencia Farms, where 2.3 ha in the basin of the Bolas River were reforested with native species such as cedar, mahogany, plumillo and matilisguate, among others. Those trees will be part of the biological corridor of the river mentioned above.
This reforestation is part of the results given by the technical table of the Bolas River, since they committed to plant 20 thousand trees during this year. The 1,500 trees are also part of the 1 million tree goal established by the ICC for 2017, and that will reforest southern Guatemala. Those trees also contribute to the mitigation to climate change, as well as the restoration of the forest landscape in the south.
