An Taisce

An Taisce is a non-governmental organization that works to preserve and protect Ireland's natural and built heritage. An Taisce is a charitable voice for the environment and for heritage issues. Its work is focused in three areas: advocacy, properties, and education. The organization's Advocacy Unit is dedicated to promoting the conservation of Ireland's nature and biodiversity as well as its built heritage. An Taisce owns a range of heritage properties in trust, including historic buildings and nature reserves. Their Environmental Education Unit is responsible for developing and operating some of Ireland's most popular and successful environmental programs and campaigns.

Centre for Sustainability Institute of Technology Sligo

Established in 2001, the Centre for Sustainability at the Institute of Technology Sligo carries out research on issues of sustainability. Their objectives include promoting, disseminating, and maximizing the impact of research on key sustainability issues. Research at the Centre for Sustainability is interdisciplinary, and focuses on seven areas: biosolids treatment and reuse, treatment and energy recovery from farm wastes, access to environmental information, decision making and justice, renewable fuels from marine biomass, bog rehabilitation, wastewater treatment optimization, and applied ecology. The Centre has collaborates with a wide range of academics and research institutions.

Friends of the Irish Environment

Founded in 1997, the Friends of the Irish Environment (FIE) has five main objectives: to monitor the development and implementation of European law in Ireland, to improve the Irish planning laws, encouage the implementation of the right to full public participation and access to justice, educate the public about environmental issues and seek the implementation of environmental and planning law through litigation. FIE works specifically on forestry, marine protection, fisheries, climate change, energy and protected areas. FIE carries out campaigns and takes legal action to achieve their objectives.

The Irish Environmental Pillar

The Environmental Pillar is a coalition of 28 environmental non-governmental organizations that work to highlight the connection between environmental sustainability and human welfare. The Environmental Pillar focuses on three activities: creating and promoting sustainability policies; acting as an advocacy coalition to promote joint policies at the local, regional and national level; and to provide a space for stakeholders to engage with the environmental sector on policy creation and implementation. The Environmental Pillar has played an important role in achieving Ireland’s ratification of the Aarhus Convention, and continues to promote the Convention's implementation.

The Law Faculty University College Cork

The School of Law at University College Cork promotes the teaching, practice, and research on all aspects of Law. The Law School offers a full range of degree programmes, at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including a specialization in environmental law and policy. Research carried out at the Law School is concerned with legal processes for environmental protection in Ireland, the application of EU and international environmental and natural resources law.
