Indonesia Center for Environmental Law

The Indonesian Center for Environmental Law (ICEL) promotes legal reform and good environmental governance through research, advocacy and capacity-building. Grounded in the principles of transparency, accountability and fairness, ICEL seeks to empower citizens and civil society groups to know and use their rights to fight for sustainable natural resource use. ICEL works to strengthen the capacity of state institutions to create, implement and enforce environmental laws and regulations. ICEL has worked with TAI on the Strengthening the Right to Information for People and the Environment (STRIPE) project, which uses the right to information law to advocate for the accountability of pulp and paper mills that contaminate key Indonesian rivers.

MediaLink seeks to improve community wellbeing through the strategic use of information. MediaLink's vision is to strengthen democracy and promote the equitable distribution of information and access to information to improve overall wellbeing. MediaLink worked with TAI on the Strengthening the Right to Information for People and the Environment (STRIPE) project, which uses the right to information law to advocate for the accountability of pulp and paper mills that contaminate key Indonesian rivers. Surabaya Legal Aid Foundation

Founded in 2010, the Surabaya Legal Aid Foundation (LBH Surabaya) has two main objectives: to fight for freedom of expression and to defend the rights of journalists and media workers. LBH Surabaya works to close the gap between the legally guaranteed rights to free press and public participation and the often incomplete implementation of these rights. To achieve these goals, LBH Surabaya provides free legal aid, conducts training sessions, and carries out research and advocacy. LBH Surabaya is also active in many national, regional, and international networks.

Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia

Wahana Lingkungan Hidup Indonesia (WALHI) is a non-governmental organization that is part of the Friends of the Earth network. WALHI works in 28 Indonesian provinces and focuses on three main areas: improving the governance and accountability of the extractive industries, advocacy and legal defense, and environmental conservation. Specifically, WALHI has engaged around issues including climate change, REDD+, palm oil, and land grabbing. WALHI worked with TAI on a project to map forest concessions in the Riau Province and carry out a gender analysis on the public participation process for granting concessions.
