TAI members in Anglophone and Francophone Africa include non-governmental organizations and individual members from 12 African countries. TAI Core Team members from this region are CODELT (Democratic Republic of Congo) and the Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA). Current goals of TAI Africa include expanding and strengthening the capacity of member of the TAI Africa network and working for the achievement of Constitutional rights to information, participation, justice and the right to a healthy environment.

Regional standards for Environmental Democracy There are number of regional treaties that support Access Rights in the continent of Africa. On right to information there is recognition of this right in the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights, the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, the African Union Convention against Corruption. The African Charter also includes a recognition of the right to participate in Government and as well as the right to a healthy environment and the right to appear before the African Commission on People and human rights and African court. The African Commission on Peoples and Human rights and the African Court has heard a number of cases that touch on access rights many of which can be found
TAI assessments have been conducted in 12 African countries including the following Benin, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar, Gabon, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. Access to information assessments were carried out in Ghana, Uganda and South Africa. EDI assessments have been conducted in 15 African countries.
